24 Sep HELMUT NEWTON’S 1956 BENTLEY S-TYPE CONTINENTAL COUPE

That such a practitioner of the high-fashion arts would own a car as elegant as this 1956 Bentley S-Type Continental should be no surprise. Delivered new to Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Peugeot of the French Peugeot car company, Newton would purchase the car in Paris in 1964. The S-Type Continental was only available as a coachbuilt car, with this example bodied by none other than H J Mulliner at his absolute finest. The car is currently presented in silver over a cognac interior, believed to have been upholstered by Hermès in the 1980s.
Along with the Bentley is a signed copy of Newton’s massive 75-pound anthology Sumo on a Philippe Starck-designed stand. The auto is expected to fetch a seven-figure price when it goes to auction October 8th.
