MB&F HM8 Mark 2 Purple Edition
Where Supercar Obsession Meets Horological Rebellion
MB&F’s Horological Machine No. 8 Mark 2 isn’t just another timepiece—it’s a bold design manifesto wrapped around the wrist. With its new Purple CarbonMacrolon® limited edition, the brand continues to push the limits of both engineering and imagination, reimagining what a watch can be when automotive dreams and horological mastery collide.
The Origin of a Dream Machine
Maximilian Büsser, MB&F’s founder, once dreamed of designing supercars. That dream didn’t fade—it evolved. The HM8 lineage began in 2012 with the wedge-shaped HM5, inspired by 1970s Lamborghinis. It progressed through the compact HMX in 2015 and the Can-Am-flavored HM8 in 2016. Now, the HM8 Mark 2 Purple distills over a decade of aesthetic and mechanical evolution into a chassis that feels like it could burn rubber.
Futurism Meets Functionality
Crafted around a Grade 5 titanium chassis, the Mark 2 is armored with sculpted CarbonMacrolon® panels, a high-tech composite infused with carbon nanotubes. The vivid purple finish—achieved through metallic pigments suspended in resin—offers a shimmer akin to exotic automotive paint. Above it all floats a sapphire “double bubble” crystal, wildly complex to produce and essential to the piece’s biomorphic silhouette.
This isn’t just for show. The driver’s watch configuration means time is displayed vertically via sapphire prisms, visible without turning the wrist—a nod to motorsport practicality. It’s not gimmickry. It’s precision optics and mechanical artistry working in perfect synchrony.
The Engine Under the Hood
Powering this machine is a custom horological engine: a jumping hour and trailing minutes module developed in-house, paired with a Girard-Perregaux base movement. The 22K gold “battle axe” rotor is not only functional—it’s sculpture in motion. The movement beats at 28,800vph and holds a 42-hour power reserve, nestled within a 247-part mechanical landscape.
MB&F even redesigned the crown. Gone is the traditional screw-down. In its place: a “push-and-turn” mechanism inspired by double de-clutch systems in high-performance cars—streamlined, secure, and engineered to impress.
Wrist-Worn Innovation
Every element of the HM8 Mark 2 is a nod to performance, innovation, and design purity. Even the sapphire disks for the numerals feature inverted Super-LumiNova for a glowing, razor-sharp readout—projected through an optical prism. A supple white rubber strap with titanium tang buckle completes the look, underscoring its athletic, technical character.
Limited Edition, Unlimited Impact
With just 33 pieces released globally, the Purple HM8 Mark 2 is unapologetically niche. But that’s the point. This isn’t for the crowd—it’s for the collector, the futurist, the visionary who sees beyond tradition. Retailing at CHF 68,000, it’s both wearable tech and a rolling sculpture frozen in time.
More than a watch, the HM8 Mark 2 Purple is an emotional engine—powered by memory, speed, and mechanical poetry.
