TAG Heuer – Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph for Only Watch 2023

TAG Heuer – Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph for Only Watch 2023

TAG Heuer will be participating in the 2023 Edition of Only Watch, the biennial charity auction that funds research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The Swiss brand will present a unique Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph for Only Watch, featuring a brand-new movement introduced by the Maison.

Unveiling an avant-garde interpretation of the Monaco case, this captivating model demonstrates the relentless commitment of TAG Heuer to push boundaries in mechanical watchmaking. Since the early 1900’s, the brand has been focused on the chronograph as a significant watch complication and has consistently demonstrated its expertise in this domain through various references of stopwatches and dashboard timers (on this topic, we invite you to read the our in-depth article “History of TAG Heuer”).
This unique watch utilizes a special combination of titanium and sapphire materials, referred to as “Texturised Titanium”, to create a stunning crystalized effect, enhancing the surface hardness for improved scratch resistance, while also providing a spectacular dynamic effect as the material catches the light and still offering water resistance to 100 metres / 330 feet.
In total, there are four pieces of sapphire found in the TAG Heuer Split-Seconds Chronograph for Only Watch. Among them, the caseback stands out as it encloses the movement, enabling unique viewing angles that are typically not possible with regular watches. Morevover, the dial creates a fascinating visual effect on the watch’s interior.
At the heart of the 41mm x 15.2mm square case (lug-to-lug 47.8mm) lies a mechanical split-seconds chronograph movement, the newly launched TH81-00 Calibre, developed in collaboration with the manufacturer Vaucher. This mechanical rattrapante movement is capable of measuring two separate time intervals concurrently offering the possibility to time laps on the racetrack or track multiple sporting events.
As the lightest automatic chronograph movement ever crafted by TAG Heuer, executed completely in titanium, the TH81-00 deserved equally impressive finishes. In collaboration with the Artime artisans, the signature graté damier finish was applied to key parts of the movement, complimented by black polishing, anglage, perlage, and brushed finishing.
Enhancing the movement is an oscillating weight fashioned in the shape of the iconic TAG Heuer shield and adorned with the official colors of Only Watch for 2023, a rainbow of reds, blues, and yellow hues.
Only Watch 2023 will take place in Geneva on November 5, 2023.
