You know the expression “living on the clouds”! It is usually used to describe those people who always have a thousand thoughts on their mind, or who like to daydream. In this case, however, this is not the case. The Estudio Felipe Escudero (EFE) has created a boutique motel where you can literally sleep in the clouds, or almost.

Founded in Quito, Ecuador, by architect Felipe Escudero, EFE is an architectural firm that creates projects whose design is detailed to add value to the human experience and urban landscape. The buildings and structures designed by EFE manage to blend functionality with aesthetics, astounding clients.

“Nube”, this is the name of the project, is a boutique hotel in Quito that has a single room that, as the name implies, echoes the shapes and colors of clouds, giving customers the feeling of sleeping inside a soft cloud.

The central space is accessed by a staircase and the suite is complete with amenities, double bed and bathtub. In addition, special furnishing objects were added, such as a huge chair in the shape of a hand, a mirror above the bed and a sculpture that runs from floor to ceiling.

As far as materials are concerned, the Estudio Felipe Escudero studio combined wood, fiberglass, metal and ceramic, obtaining a play of opaque and shiny surfaces. What reigns supreme is a shade of off-white tending to blue, which was chosen for all the surfaces. The cloud effect is amplified by purely artificial lighting.
